Senior Audit Technical Manager
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
To enhance the quality of engagements through providing technical support to the engagement teams. The incumbent will also manage the creation of quality assurance processes and procedures to improve quality management for all key audit processes at firm level as well as individual audits. The Senior Audit Technical Manager will work on internal projects relating to technical matters. These may include developing training material, collateral or template development, coaching of audit teams and risk monitoring / mitigation projects. The incumbent must have technical knowledge in various disciplines including IFRS, IFRS for SME’s, ISA’s, IRBA and SAICA Codes of Professional Conduct.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Quality Management
- Provide audit technical support and focused interventions to the audit practice.
- Author or review audit support content in response to professional standards.
- Specialize in the application of ISA, IFRS for SMEs and IFRS.
- Assist engagement teams with methodology and audit technical queries.
- Analyse and monitor data points to find quality initiatives to assist audit quality.
- Actively promote behavioural change amongst assurance Partners and their engagement teams through face-to-face interaction and challenging of audit approaches.
- Support audit teams through formal and informal consultations on audit technical matters.
- Responsible for researching and analysing of auditing issues and providing practical advice to audit engagement teams.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of reporting related tools, templates and other internal resources.
- Spearhead continuous improvement of in-house systems, policies and procedures.
- Responsible for supporting Quality Manager and CaseWare Consultant on all arising and urgent technical matters.
- Develop a wide and deep knowledge across various technical areas and remain abreast to new developments (reporting, Companies Act, audit methodology, IFRS, IFRS for SME’s).
- Undertake subject-based monitoring reviews.
- Assist partners in responding to internal and external quality inspection findings and assist Senior Audit Managers who support partners with internal inspections.
- Assist partners and audit teams with root-cause analysis process following external and internal inspections.
- Draft IRBA reports and correspondence post inspections.
- Train and coach peers and juniors on technical matters through day-to-day interaction.
- Lead audit technical projects and work with Quality Manager in contributing to the delivery of larger projects.
- Conduct research for technical audit training, accounting and tax and develop audit training material for same.
- Ongoing monitoring of the quality management process including post issuance reviews.
- Perform monitoring of quality management compliance in accordance with the monitoring requirements of the International Standards on Quality Control (ISQC1)/ International Standards of Quality Management (ISQM1) and specific requirements as determined by the firm.
- Oversee and implement a pro-active Quality Management review support program that actively responds to risks and ensures quality on firm audits before issuance of audit reports.
- Perform pro-active reviews on a number of high profile and significant risk engagements.
- Participate in initiatives to improve the effectiveness of the pre-issuance review processes and its ability to significantly improve the firm’s overall quality.
- Provide ongoing and closer support to pre-issuance reviewers on consistency, risks and quality issues that need to be addressed during pre-issuance review process.
- Participate in any other pro-active strategic initiatives to drive the improvement in audit quality before the issuance of audit reports.
- Responsible for the completion of monitoring meetings pertaining to the selection of files for monitoring updating the cyclical plan for selection, and annual general policy statement and acceptance of responsibility for quality management
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- Registered CA(SA) RA advantageous.
- 2-3 years post articles experience in an auditing environment.
- Practical experience in Quality Management reviews will be an added advantage.
- Deep technical knowledge of IFRS, IFRS for SME’s and ISAs,
- Well versed with the IRBA and SAICA codes and regulations.
- Sound industry and business knowledge
